In select wine boutiques in Yerevan, bottles priced in the thousands of dollars can now be found. There may be even more expensive examples elsewhere, but these are among the most notable wines you can encounter on a casual walk through the Kentron district — step inside, take a closer look, and, if you are willing to part with a significant sum, take them home. Their price reflects years of craftsmanship, rare vintages, iconic estates and strictly limited production. Here is a closer look at some of the most exclusive bottles available — and what makes them so expensive.

Château Latour Pauillac 2007

Price: 455,000 AMD

Château Latour is one of the five First Growth estates of Bordeaux, a classification established as far back as 1855. That status alone places its wines in the investment-grade category: only a handful of estates in the world share this distinction.

Latour’s production is defined by strict selection — only the finest grapes from the oldest vines make it into the grand vin, while the rest is allocated to second labels. Add long ageing and meticulous quality control at every stage, and the result is a classic Bordeaux profile: tobacco, dried flowers, and ripe berries on the nose, with rounded tannins, balance, and a long, composed finish on the palate.

Château Lafite Rothschild Pauillac 2012

Price: 650,000 AMD

Lafite Rothschild is known for its precision winemaking: careful grape selection, extended ageing in oak (around three years), and an exceptional terroir in Pauillac, one of Bordeaux’s most prestigious appellations.

The bouquet is layered and complex — blackcurrant, graphite, stone, oak and subtle notes of cocoa. On the palate, the wine shows depth, elegance and a finely structured frame. This is a wine built for decades of evolution, gaining complexity over time rather than losing it.

Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 1997 (Magnum)

Sassicaia is one of Italy’s most influential wines, credited with redefining Italian winemaking and giving rise to the “Super Tuscan” movement — wines produced outside traditional classification rules that nonetheless achieved global acclaim.

The 1997 vintage is considered one of the strongest, and the magnum format (1.5L) adds both value and longevity, as larger bottles tend to age more gracefully and are produced in smaller quantities. Expect dark berries, spice, mineral notes and a powerful yet balanced structure — a wine defined by scale, history and rarity.

Masseto Toscana 2010

Masseto is a cult wine built around a single vineyard and a single grape variety — Merlot — an unusual approach in Tuscany, where blends dominate.

Scarcity is the key driver of its price: production is extremely limited, while global demand remains consistently high. Each vintage quickly becomes a collector’s target. Aromatically, it is intense — blackcurrant, tobacco, graphite and spice. On the palate, it delivers density, chocolate, smoke, firm tannins and an exceptionally long finish. It is a wine designed to impress immediately and linger in memory.

Château Angélus “Hommage Elisabeth Bouchet” Magnum 2018

Price: 1,700,000 AMD

One of the most expensive bottles available in Yerevan, this limited-edition magnum pays tribute to Élisabeth Bouchet and highlights Cabernet Franc — a grape rarely showcased as a solo expression in such high-end Bordeaux projects.

Its price reflects extreme rarity, magnum format, and the prestige of Château Angélus, an estate ranked among the elite of Saint-Émilion. These wines are often purchased not only for consumption but also as collectibles and investments.

The aroma combines blackcurrant, truffle, floral notes and spice, while the palate is defined by ultra-fine tannins, impeccable balance and a seamless, almost weightless texture.
