A potential new iPhone has already sparked a wave of criticism — even before Apple has officially unveiled it. A leaked video showing a so-called “dummy model” of Apple’s rumored foldable smartphone, referred to in leaks as the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra, has surfaced online. The reaction from users has been far from enthusiastic, the New York Post reports.

“The Worst of Both Worlds”

The video was published by the YouTube channel Max Tech, where content creator Vadim Yuryev showcases two mockups: a more compact “iPhone 18 prototype” and a more controversial foldable version, which is believed to become the future Ultra model.

The device is designed in a book-style format, unfolding horizontally into a small tablet. However, its appearance has raised more confusion than excitement among viewers: a bulky body, thick frame, and a large camera module on the back.

One of the most widely shared reactions online was blunt:
“This is the worst of both worlds.”

Design: Thicker, Heavier — and Missing Familiar Features

According to the video, the device measures around 11 mm thick when folded and 5.5 mm when unfolded, making it comparable in thinness to the iPhone Air — albeit due to its foldable construction.

However, users quickly pointed out a critical issue: the device may lack MagSafe — Apple’s signature magnetic charging system, which has been standard since the iPhone 12. There is also speculation that Face ID could be missing.

“What Is This Even For?”

Skepticism among Apple fans has been widespread. Many believe the concept does not solve real user problems, but instead complicates the familiar smartphone format.

Among the most common reactions:

“I don’t see the point of phones like this. If you want a bigger screen, just buy an iPad.”
“For $2,000, this looks like a bad compromise.”
“It feels like Apple forgot why people buy iPhones.”
And the harshest verdict: “It looks terrible.”

Apple Playing Catch-Up

Despite the criticism, interest in the project remains high. According to insiders, Apple is already facing technical challenges in developing a foldable device — more significant than initially expected.

The company is reportedly aiming to outpace competitors such as Samsung and Google by offering improved durability, display quality, and the absence of a visible crease — one of the main issues with foldable smartphones.

Still, the industry has been moving toward foldable devices for several years, while Apple, according to analysts, is entering the market noticeably later than its rivals.

The Price of Premium

The device is expected to cost around $2,000, placing it firmly in the ultra-premium segment.
