As part of the nationwide celebrations marking the US Semiquincentennial (250th anniversary), the Bonhams auction house has put up for bidding lots from the renowned Louise Taper Collection—one of the country's most respected and comprehensive private holdings of presidential artifacts.

Ronald Reagan’s baseball cap, Dwight D. Eisenhower’s iconic felt fedora, and Franklin D. Roosevelt’s pocket watch are just a fraction of the items expected to fetch thousands of dollars at the auction, which kicked off on June 14. "This carefully curated collection of historic Americana brings together exceptional manuscripts, imprints, and personal artifacts of the presidents," the official auction description reads.

The First Printed Mention of the Bill of Rights

Congress approved 12 amendments to the Constitution on September 25, 1789, and by October 2, George Washington had sent official copies to the states for ratification. Literally the next day, the full text of the amendments appeared on the third page of The Gazette of the United States. This historic newspaper issue is up for sale with an estimated value of $8,000 – $12,000.

Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Gold Watch

An 18-karat gold pocket watch featuring a white enamel dial and Roman numerals stands out as an incredibly precious personal artifact belonging to FDR. The case back is engraved: "Alfred Pell 1873 / G.E.P. Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1901." The inscription dates back to the period when a young Roosevelt had just entered Harvard University. The lot comes complete with a gold chain and a gold-mounted penknife.

A Dessert Plate from Jacqueline Kennedy and Ultra-Rare Porcelain

Another standout lot is a dessert plate once owned by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, originally from a state service manufactured for President Roosevelt. Starting at $2,400, the description notes that Jackie Kennedy likely kept the piece as a deeply personal symbol of the respect and legacy linking the Roosevelt and Kennedy families.

The crown jewel of the entire auction, however, is a piece of porcelain from George Washington’s 1782 Niderviller service.

Organizers emphasize that the item is an "exceptional rarity." It is believed to be the only piece of Washington’s porcelain to ever appear on the open market, as all other known items from this service reside strictly within the United States' premier museum and institutional collections.
