Dubai, widely known as a tax haven with one of the lowest crime rates in the world, has long served as an open-air vault for the ultra-wealthy. Here, supercars are left unlocked, and local collections of Hermès Birkin and Kelly bags feature some of the rarest pieces on Earth—treated by their owners as bona fide fine art. It is hardly surprising, then, that Dubai has birthed the latest trend in hyper-luxury: diamond-encrusted bag jewelry with price tags that sometimes eclipse the cost of the scarce leather goods themselves, the Financial Times reports.
Enter Bag Bijoux, a high-jewelry brand launched in 2024 by sisters Ashna and Aria Mehta. The duo created a collection of precious charms designed specifically to slide onto the leather straps of iconic Hermès bags. Prices for these "toys" start at $2,800 and scale up into the seven-figure range for bespoke, custom orders.

Unlike standard trinkets, Bag Bijoux charms are a feat of precise engineering. The sisters spent months researching and developing a unique fastening mechanism that sits flawlessly on a Birkin or Kelly strap without scratching the delicate leather, ensuring the costly accessory never slips off. Furthermore, the pieces are multi-functional: with a quick adjustment, a bag charm effortlessly transforms into a brooch or a luxury necklace.
The vast majority of these pieces are handcrafted right in Dubai using 18-karat gold, natural diamonds, emeralds, and rubies.

The brand has already caught the attention of global stars like Kylie Jenner (for whom they created an exclusive $25,000 "Lip Kit" set) and Mindy Kaling. However, it is in Dubai where these jewels have become an absolute staple within exclusive circles.
The price list for their "entry-level" models is eye-watering:
Beetle Charm: $9,330
Sunflower Charm: $13,780
UAE Peace Flag Charm (featuring four types of precious gemstones): approx. $14,000
Soccer Ball Charm: $17,850
Golden Camel Charm: $19,050
Cementing their status in the fine jewelry world, in June 2026, Ashna Mehta took home the top prize in the Haute Couture category at the prestigious COUTURE Design Awards in Las Vegas (widely considered the "Oscars" of the jewelry industry). The winning piece was the Gilded Bloom—a transformable jewel centering a spectacular 36.89-carat fancy intense yellow diamond. The price for this masterpiece is available strictly upon request.
Local fashionistas admit that Dubai has grown somewhat fatigued by traditional heritage brands. The typical Bag Bijoux clients are women who have outgrown Bvlgari Serpenti bracelets or Tiffany diamonds; they crave something more niche, daring, and highly unique.

Yet, the primary reason these couture charms thrive on the city's streets comes down to total public safety. Local insiders admit that when traveling to Europe or the US, they prefer to detach the diamonds from their bags and wear them safely around their necks as pendants. But the moment they touch back down in Dubai, their Birkins are immediately converted back into portable museum display cases.
In a city permanently obsessed with hunting down the "next big thing," Bag Bijoux has provided the ultimate, long-awaited upgrade for the elite crowd who already own everything.
