Hollywood legend Rob Reiner has been posthumously awarded an Emmy for his role in the hit series The Bear — just nine months after the director and actor was brutally murdered alongside his wife, Michelle.
Reiner, 78, won the award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of Albert Schnurr in the hit series starring Jeremy Allen White. The ceremony took place during the second night of the Creative Arts Emmys.
It marked the first posthumous acting Emmy win since Raúl Juliá, who received the award for The Burning Season in 1995.
Actress Wendi McLendon-Covey accepted the statuette on Reiner’s behalf. When his name was announced, the audience rose to its feet and applauded for nearly a minute, visibly moved by the moment.
The victory, however, carried an especially tragic significance. It came just nine months after the deaths of Reiner and his 70-year-old wife, Michelle Singer Reiner, who were killed in December last year.
Their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, was arrested in connection with the double homicide and charged in the case. He has pleaded not guilty.
The posthumous award also gave Reiner another place in Emmy history.
Before this year’s victory, he had last won an acting Emmy in 1978, for his work on the classic sitcom All in the Family.
That means 48 years passed between his two acting Emmy wins — a gap that broke the previous record held by his father, Carl Reiner, whose record stood at 37 years.
Remarkably, both father and son set the record in the same category: Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.
Carl Reiner won an EmmyIn the fourth season of The Bear, Reiner portrayed restaurant owner Albert. The series received eight nominations at the 2026 ceremony. in 1958 for Caesar’s Hour and later repeated the achievement in 1995 for Mad About You.
