Elon Musk has lashed out at Alex Gibney’s four-hour documentary about his life, calling the film a “hit job” and describing the director as a “terrible person.”

The documentary Musk, which premiered Tuesday at the Venice Film Festival, received a four-minute standing ovation and largely positive reviews from critics. The film attempts to delve into the personality of the world’s richest man and the scale of his influence on the modern world.

The documentary examines Musk’s political transformation and his emergence as a supporter of the MAGA movement, his controversial projects involving Mars exploration and Tesla self-driving technology, as well as the entrepreneur’s complicated relationships with several of the mothers of his 14 children.

On Wednesday, Musk began responding to posts about the film on X. Under a video of Gibney at a press conference, he wrote that even “dog shit deserves more respect” than the Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker.

In another post, Musk claimed that Gibney had “simply assembled a list of people who either have a personal grudge against him or don’t know him at all, but are still holding a grudge against him.”

“He has ZERO integrity. Terrible person,” Musk wrote of the director.

It remains unclear whether Musk himself has actually seen the film.

Musk features his first wife, Justine Musk; his father, Errol Musk; Ashley St. Clair, the mother of the entrepreneur’s 13th child; “godfather of AI” Geoffrey Hinton; Tesla co-founder Martin Eberhard; LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman; and other interviewees.

St. Clair attended the film’s press conference in Venice and claimed that after the birth of her and Musk’s son, Romulus, last year, she was allegedly offered a $40 million non-disclosure agreement.

Responding to a TMZ post featuring her claim, Musk categorically denied it.

“She was never offered anything like that, and she has a history of false claims,” the entrepreneur wrote.

In another post, Musk again attacked the documentary, calling it a “hit job that completely missed the mark” and accusing the film of committing “the cardinal sin — being boring for four hours.”

At the Venice press conference, Gibney revealed that his first step had been to try to arrange an interview with Musk, but the entrepreneur declined.

Gibney and his team ultimately created an AI avatar of Musk, which appears in the film delivering statements previously made by the entrepreneur himself.
