Sydney Sweeney Responds to Backlash Over Risqué Ad by Sharing Photos of Nude Athletes

14:37, September 14

Sydney Sweeney appears to have responded to critics of her latest advertising campaign with a touch of irony. The actress shared a series of photos on her Instagram Stories featuring celebrities who have posed nude over the years.

The 29-year-old Euphoria star took to social media on the day of a major sporting event, once again sharing a video from her Novig campaign.

Alongside the video, Sweeney posted several promotional photos in which she appears almost completely nude.

At the same time, the actress seemingly decided to poke fun at social media users who criticized her for emphasizing her appearance while promoting Novig, a platform for sports predictions.

Sweeney shared photos of Serena Williams, Ronda Rousey, Sue Bird, Megan Rapinoe and Caroline Wozniacki, all of whom have appeared nude in magazines at various points in their careers.

The actress also highlighted male athletes and celebrities who have posed without clothes for sports-related projects or magazines. Her selection included Myles Garrett, Rob Gronkowski, Karl-Anthony Towns and Jason Kelce.

However, Sweeney did not directly respond to users who said they were “outraged” and “disappointed” by her campaign.

“As a former athlete and a woman who has personally experienced sexualized comments, I am genuinely outraged and disappointed by this campaign,” one user wrote beneath Sweeney’s original post. “We have spent years fighting to be seen and respected for our talent, strength and achievements, rather than being reduced to our bodies…” she added.

Another user commented: “It’s a shame she couldn’t have done an ad like this while wearing clothes. It’s deliberately designed to cause controversy, like the Brooke Shields ad years ago. That’s what is being sold. Unfortunately.”

“At this point, it’s just sad,” a third commenter wrote. “Can’t you sell something or simply be an ordinary woman without using your own body as a tool? Sexualizing sports in this way is just insane.”

Sweeney shocked fans last week when she appeared completely nude in one of the most provocative advertising campaigns of her career.
