Kim Kardashian has been awarded symbolic compensation of just one euro following the Paris robbery in which armed criminals tied her up and stole jewelry worth around $6 million.
“Today’s decision is not about the amount of compensation, but about accountability and recognition of what happened,” Kardashian and her childhood friend Simone Harush said in a joint statement to PEOPLE.
Kim Kardashian received €1, or around $1.15, in a ruling by a Paris court over the armed robbery that took place in October 2016. At the time, jewelry worth approximately $6 million was stolen from the star’s Paris hotel room. Most of the stolen items have never been recovered.
The €1 sum was exactly what the 45-year-old SKIMS co-founder herself had requested when she testified during the trial in May 2025.
Harush, Kardashian’s childhood friend, was awarded the same amount — €1. She was staying one floor below Kardashian at the No Address hotel at the time of the attack and was the person Kardashian managed to reach after freeing herself.
“We are grateful to the French justice system for recognizing us as victims of the horrific events that took place in Paris in 2016,” Kardashian and Harush said in their joint statement.
“This experience was deeply traumatic, and its impact remains with us to this day. Today’s decision is not about the amount of compensation, but about accountability and recognition. We are grateful to the court and to everyone who supported us throughout this process, and we now hope to move forward and continue to heal,” they added.
Meanwhile, a former hotel employee who said the attack had caused him psychological trauma was awarded $126,472. The hotel itself received $57,741 in compensation.
The robbery took place in the early hours of October 3, 2016. Kardashian was alone in her room when five armed, masked men burst in, some of them dressed as police officers. Threatening her with weapons, they tied her up, gagged her, placed her in the bathtub and stole her jewelry.
Kardashian managed to free herself from the plastic restraints around her wrists by literally slipping out of them. She then made her way to Harush’s room, and the two women contacted the police.
It was later revealed that the stolen items included a $4 million ring given to Kardashian by her then-husband, rapper Kanye West; two Cartier diamond bracelets; a gold and diamond necklace by Jacob & Co.; Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings; and a gold Rolex watch.
Most of the jewelry was never recovered.
During the trial in May 2025, Kardashian spoke about the ordeal and admitted that she was convinced she was going to die during the attack.
“I thought I was going to be killed,” she told the court.
The star arrived at the hearing dressed entirely in black and wearing a large amount of diamond jewelry. She later explained on an episode of The Kardashians that she had deliberately wanted to display the jewelry to the defendants and “really piss these losers off.”
By January 2017, French authorities had arrested 17 people in connection with the armed robbery. Ten suspects, including five alleged accomplices, ultimately went on trial. The proceedings were postponed several times.
French media dubbed those involved the “grandpa robbers” because of their advanced ages and criminal backgrounds.
Eight defendants were ultimately found guilty of offenses related to the robbery, while two were acquitted. None of those convicted had to return to prison, as the judge credited them for time already served in custody.
Following the conclusion of the trial, Kardashian said she was “deeply grateful to the French authorities for pursuing justice” in the case.
“This crime was the most terrifying experience of my life and left a deep mark on me and my family. I will never forget what happened, but I believe in the power of growth and accountability, and I pray for healing for everyone. I remain committed to advocating for justice and a fair legal system,” the star said.
