64-year-old Tom Cruise has become the star of a striking GQ photoshoot and, in a rare interview, opened up about his demanding personality, extraordinary work ethic and the greatest passion of his life — filmmaking.
For the magazine, the Hollywood star posed in an unbuttoned black shirt and jeans, while in other shots he appeared in a white T-shirt and cowboy hat.
Cruise, who is known for being intensely private and rarely gives interviews, decided this time to open up more about his career and his approach to his profession.

The actor will soon be seen in Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu’s upcoming film Digger. Cruise will play an enormously wealthy oil tycoon who sets out to save the world from a global environmental catastrophe — only to discover that he himself has inadvertently caused the impending disaster.
The actor, known for performing many of his own high-risk stunts in action films, spoke to GQ about his dedication to filmmaking and admitted that his reputation for having an “intense” personality is entirely deserved.
“Look, I work a lot, and the people who work with me know that. I demand a lot, and I’m always very direct about it. It’s kind of like, ‘Yeah, the rumors are true. And you really want to do this?’” Cruise said.
According to the actor, he has been this way since childhood.
“Even when I was a kid, people would tell me, ‘Okay, Tom, you’re so intense.’ And I’d say, ‘I don’t know what to tell you. I really am,’” he admitted.
Cruise explained that much of his demanding nature comes from his natural curiosity: when something genuinely interests him, he wants to understand it down to the smallest detail.

“If I’m interested in something, I want to learn it. I want to understand it. I want to break through all the confusion, figure it out and gradually develop my abilities,” the actor said.
For Cruise, however, filmmaking stopped being simply a profession a long time ago.
“Making movies isn’t what I do. It’s who I am,” he declared.
