The global luxury market is going through a challenging period: fashion house sales are slowing, Chinese consumers are spending less, and shares in major luxury companies are losing value. However, Antoine Arnault, the son of billionaire Bernard Arnault and a key member of the family that controls the LVMH empire, is urging the industry not to panic. He says the group is focused not on the results of the next quarter, but on the next generation of consumers, and remains committed to a long-term strategy.
In an interview excerpt published by FashionNetwork, Arnault emphasized that the group’s strategy is built on patience, a forward-looking mindset, and working with the best talent. “Our strategy is to look ahead, remain patient, and work with the best talent,” he said.
His comments come amid a challenging financial performance for LVMH. According to Reuters, the group’s organic sales rose by just 1% in the third quarter of 2026, reaching €18.5 billion. Meanwhile, its fashion and leather goods division, which includes Louis Vuitton and Dior, recorded a 5% decline. Sales in Asia, where China plays a key role, fell by 5%, while sales in the United States increased by 5%.
With demand weakening and luxury stocks falling, investors are looking for signs of a market recovery. Arnault, however, does not view the current situation as a catastrophe for the industry. His approach suggests that brands’ success cannot be measured solely by quarterly earnings: long-term development, maintaining brand appeal, and connecting with new generations of consumers are equally important.
This is particularly relevant for LVMH, whose portfolio spans dozens of brands across fashion, leather goods, jewelry, cosmetics, wine, and spirits. Their resilience depends not only on the current spending habits of wealthy customers, but also on their ability to preserve their value and appeal as market conditions change.
