The Venice Biennale, a major contemporary art exhibition, opened with an awarding ceremony on June 1. This year’s exhibition brought together participants from 88 states, including Armenia.
Armenia has been participating in the exhibition since 1995. The installation of artist Ararat Sarkissian was chosen for this year’s Biennale out of four entries. The installation was presented on the Venetian Island of San Lazzaro degli Armeni. The artist presented scenes from David of Sasun epic on the ceramic boards.
It was also accompanied by video installations which had a success at the festival, Arman Grigoryan, one of those who installed Armenian exposition, told reporters in Yerevan.
The jury of the 55th International Art Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia chaired by Jessica Morgan named the winners in three categories:
Golden Lion for Best National Participation to Angola (Luanda, Encyclopedic City Edson Chagas)
Golden Lion for the best artist in the International Exhibition Il Palazzo Enciclopedico (The Encyclopedic Palace) to Tino Sehgal
