The parents of the creative director of the Italian fashion house Fendi and the French Chanel Karl Lagerfeld were members of the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP).
This became known from the book of the German journalist Alfons Kaiser which is set to be published today, The Irish Times reported.
In particular, the book contains a photograph from the 1938 Lagerfeld album. It depicts four-year-old Karl in Bavarian lederhosen shorts against the backdrop of a family house, over which a flag with a swastika flies.
Otto Lagerfeld was the owner of the Glücksklee condensed milk plant in Germany. By the beginning of the 1940s, the company's turnover amounted to several tens of thousands of Reichsmarks and was equivalent to € 280,000.
By the beginning of the 1940s, the company's turnover was already equal to the modern equivalent of 280 thousand euros. Alfons Kaiser attributes this success to the Lagerfeld's membership in the Nazi party: the author of the book discovered documents indicating that Otto Lagerfeld joined the NSDAP in May 1933, four months after Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany, taking over as Reich Chancellor.
