Anne Hathaway poses as vamp on Vanity Fair cover

11:30, March 26

Anne Hathaway was told in the early years of her career that she had no sex appeal. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the 41-year-old actress said it was just stupid. She added that things were different 20 years ago.

“The male gaze was very dominant,” the Oscar winner added. The star, who is promoting new romantic comedy The Idea of You about a woman who romances a younger pop star, posed as a vamp in Norman Jean Roy's photographs for the publication.

Also, she spoke about her psychological problems. According to her, she used to experience anxiety, which caused her problems on set. Ann noted that she felt “humiliation” too much.

Hathaway stated that she is grateful to director Christopher Nolan for believing in her and giving her a wonderful film that proved her acting abilities—2014's Interstellar. The actress said she had a "terrible panic attack" early in her career. “I was alone and didn’t know what was happening. Now I feel much safer." “A lot of people didn’t give me roles because they were so concerned about how toxic my online personality had become. But I had an angel in Christopher Nolan who didn't care and gave me one of the most beautiful roles I've ever played in one of the best films I've ever done,” Hathaway said.

Anne has been the butt of jokes online for years, with trolls attacking her for no reason. “Humiliation is a very difficult thing to go through,” she said.
