Arnold Schwarzenegger undergoes 4th heart surgery

12:12, March 26

Arnold Schwarzenegger has undergone his fourth heart surgery and had a pacemaker installed after scar tissue from previous heart surgeries led to an irregular heartbeat.

The Terminator underwent surgery last week and is currently in the process of recovery. Arnold, 76, had previously undergone three heart surgeries. He has a congenital heart defect—bicuspid aortic valve.

“Last Monday I had surgery to make me a little more of a machine with a pacemaker,” he said on his Arnold's Pump Club podcast. “I had surgery on Monday, and by Friday I was at a big environmental event with my friend and fellow fitness enthusiast Jane Fonda.”

The former California governor underwent the procedure on the advice of doctors who said three previous heart surgeries had taken a toll on his body. “They also told me it was time to follow through because the scar tissue from my previous surgery was causing my heartbeat to become irregular,” Schwarzenegger explained.
