YEREVAN. – Handmade items are always valued more highly and such creations are quite common in Armenia. But although we are accustomed to see handmade jewelry, designer and other accessories until now, today we can say that there also are handmade cosmetic items in Armenia.
Irina Shanoyan, 24, a political scientist by profession, makes handmade soaps and other beauty accessories.
Shanoyan told NEWS.am STYLE that she is engaged in this activity for a mere six months. “It happened just out of the blue. The idea was born, [and] I decided to implement it. I started with soaps. I also make ointments, scrubbers, oils, balms, masks, [and] even dry perfume,” she added.
Irina said she learned how to make cosmetics from her chemist grandmother; she also reads books, and uses the Internet and her imagination.
“The preparation methods are different,” she explained. Shanoyan informed that she uses exclusively natural materials which are hard to find in Armenia, and she buys some materials from abroad.
Irina noted that she considers her work to be a form of art, and not business. She does not think about the competition, either.“Every new thing is not absolutely accepted in Armenia, and many give preference to a finished product, especially since it is more affordable in some cases,” she said.
But, at the same time, Irina Shanoyan stressed that she already has regular customers.
