Gordon Ramsay is grateful to be alive after a recent bicycle accident in the US state of Connecticut. The UK celebrity chef said on Instagram that he "had a very serious accident" that "really shook" him.

“I'm honestly lucky to be alive,” he said, before thanking the “incredible” trauma surgeons, doctors, and nurses who cared for him.

Ramsay assured that he was “all right” now, he had not broken any bones or suffered any serious injury, but he “looked like a purple potato.”

“I’m lucky to be standing here,” said Ramsay, an avid cyclist and triathlete. “I’m hurt, it’s been a tough week, but I can’t tell you how important it is to wear a helmet.” According to him, it was the helmet that saved his life.
