Hollywood actor Sean Penn has denied ever hitting ex-wife Madonna with a baseball bat during their four-year marriage.

“I had a damn SWAT team show up at my house,” Penn told The New York Times, adding that Madonna told police she was concerned about guns in the house. “I said, ‘I’m not going out. I'm going to finish breakfast." The next thing I knew, the whole house was breaking windows and they came in.”

Despite their tumultuous marriage and subsequent divorce, Penn still has a soft spot for his first wife. “I love her,” he told NYT. “It turns out that it is much faster to restore friendship after divorce if there are no children in the marriage. It took me and [ex-wife Robin Wright] quite a long time. There was a lot of drama."

Penn and Madonna were married from 1985 to 1989, although the "Like a Virgin" singer first filed for divorce from Penn in 1987, although she withdrew the papers and filed again two years later.
