Vacheron Constantin has unveiled new creations from its Metiers d’Art collection watches, featuring a typical conceptual design. Tribute to Traditional Symbols pays homage to an iconic element of Chinese culture: the sea cliff, a decorative motif characteristic of the imperial court of the Ming and Qing dynasties.
The theme of waves crashing against rocks appears repeatedly in Chinese art, sculpture, architecture, and other objets’d'art. Vacheron has created two decorative models with dials depicting stylized sea waves washing over sharp rocks. On one version, the waves are depicted in rows of diamonds sparkling in the moonlight, while on the other, they are depicted in cloisonné enamel in colors that represent the vegetation on the rocks, according to Robb Report.
The watch was created in close collaboration with a scientific librarian at the Palace Museum in the Forbidden City in Beijing.

The Moonlight Slivers is certainly the only watch in history to depict billowing ocean waves made entirely of diamonds. The aim is to make them appear to reflect the brilliance of the moonlight, hence the name.

The Eternal Flow cloisonné model also boasts a graphic strength, with vibrant colors that give the waves an even greater sense of movement. The technique used is an homage to a craft that originated in China, where cloisonné enamel was called Jingtai Blue. To create the dial, the craftsman must lay out 220 gold threads on the dial to form the composition, a process that takes 50 hours. A further 70 hours are spent on the enameling process.
Each model comes in a 39mm white and rose gold case, with 15 pieces in each metal, for a total of 60 pieces. It is equipped with the automatic caliber 2460 with a 40-hour power reserve. On the case back, the 24-karat gold rotor is delicately engraved with a seawater cliff motif. Price on request.
