“Chorus of Stones”: Cartier makes jewelry “speak” in its new high jewelry collection

22:26, May 13

In dazzling Mediterranean light, orange diamonds take on the appearance of molten flame around the ear. A tiger’s striped coat becomes a graphic interplay of shadows, where onyx and yellow stones seem to come alive against the skin. An emerald opens up like a mysterious labyrinthine garden, while the curves of a cabochon sapphire resemble the surface of a deep, still pool, WWD reports.

This play of light and stone forms the foundation of Cartier’s new high jewelry collection, unveiled in Provence at a château near Saint-Tropez. The collection is titled Le Chœur des Pierres (“The Chorus of Stones”) and is dedicated to the four classical precious stones as the core of the brand’s artistic and emotional language.

Stones as the foundation of design

According to Jacqueline Karachi-Langane, Director of High Jewelry Creation at Cartier, the concept behind the collection is to “give voice to the stone,” revealing its inner memory and beauty shaped by time.

Each piece treats the gemstone not merely as a material, but as the starting point of the entire design. Color, form, and cut are not additions — they are the foundation of the composition itself.

Pierre Rainero, Director of Image, Style and Heritage, emphasizes that the key lies in the combination of colors, volumes, and cuts, as well as unexpected pairings of different stones.

From taboo to aesthetic freedom

One notable aspect of the collection is the use of color combinations historically considered unconventional — such as green and blue. Cartier frames this not as a rule-breaking gesture, but as an expansion of the idea of beauty, a practice dating back to the early 20th century.

Other pieces draw inspiration from Indian and Chinese aesthetics, featuring combinations such as red with green or complex tricolor compositions.

Among the standout creations:

Tutti Kanya — a piece featuring a carved emerald of over 30 carats with a ruby tassel
Haryma — a necklace combining yellow and orange diamonds with garnets and white stones to create a gradient effect
Olorra — a wide geometric necklace made of turquoise, lapis lazuli, and white diamonds
Panthère Kentia — a composition centered on a 50-carat Ceylon sapphire, topped with Cartier’s signature panther with emerald eyes

In total, the collection includes more than 130 pieces, spanning jewelry and high jewelry timepieces, with approximately 1,900 carats of central stones.
