A new docuseries is taking a deep dive into the 2005 criminal trial of Michael Jackson, People writes.
Jackson, who had been charged with molesting 13-year-old Gavin Arvizo, was found not guilty on all 10 counts he faced after a trial that became the subject of a media frenzy.
Just over two decades later, Michael Jackson: The Verdict, a three-part docuseries, will premiere June 3 on Netflix, the streaming company announced.
“It has been 20 years since the trial of Michael Jackson in which he was found not guilty. Yet, to this day, controversy still rages,” the filmmakers told Netflix's news site Tudum. “No cameras were allowed in court, and so the public's view of the facts at the time were filtered by commentators and presented piecemeal. It was time to take a forensic look at the trial as a whole."
According to Netflix, the series features interviews with several key players from the 2005 trial, including jurors who decided the case.
“The aim was to take the audience inside the proceedings and only speak to eyewitnesses who played a part in those events,” the filmmakers said.
The trial was held in Santa Barbara County Superior Court in California and spanned several months.
Several well-known people testified at the trial, including Macaulay Culkin and Chris Tucker.
The release of Michael Jackson: The Verdict comes on the heels of the release of Michael, a biopic on the singer that has dominated the box office but does not delve into the multiple allegations of child sexual abuse levied against Jackson.
The "Thriller" singer, who died in 2009, long denied having committed any abuse.
