A terminally ill bride has married her life partner of 33 years in a touching wedding ceremony held right from her hospice bed—after decades of putting off their official marriage, The Post reports.

Moving and bittersweet photographs captured newlyweds Karen and Stephen Glossop beaming with happiness just moments after exchanging their vows during the emotional service. Joining them to share in the special day were their four children—Kim, Luke, Rebecca, and Samantha—and their five grandchildren.

The couple, from Eckington, were finally able to say their long-awaited "I do's" on Thursday, July 2, 2026, thanks to the compassion and rapid mobilization of the staff at Ashgate Hospice in Chesterfield.

'Life Just Got in the Way'

The couple explained that they had always planned to tie the knot, but "life kept throwing curveballs." Earlier this year, 58-year-old Karen was diagnosed with cancer, and as her condition worsened, she was recently admitted to the hospice for end-of-life care.

Stephen, a 67-year-old retired truck driver, opened up about their journey: "We just never found the time to get married before. The kids came along, the daily routine took over, and life just got in the way. But it was always in our plans. We’ve been together for 33 years, so this wedding was definitely a long time coming."

Despite the heavy circumstances, Stephen expressed tearful gratitude for how the day turned out: "It was a beautiful day, and the ceremony was incredibly special. I am endlessly grateful to the hospice for making this happen. Everyone did an amazing job, pulling the celebration together in literally just a few hours. I was so happy that we managed to gather so many loved ones on such short notice."

Though some family members were away when the plan came together, organizers managed to quickly assemble 22 guests. According to Stephen, Karen was overjoyed to see her entire family gathered together. "It’s a day I will remember forever," he added.

A Community United by Kindness

To make the celebration possible, local businesses immediately rallied alongside the hospice staff and volunteers. Within a matter of hours, wedding flowers, professional photography, a wedding cake, and a buffet for the guests were all arranged completely free of charge.

"It was an absolute honor to help Karen and Stephen celebrate this monumental milestone in their lives," said Kaylee Peacock, a senior staff nurse at the hospice. "Seeing so many different people come together to organize everything so quickly was incredibly heartwarming. We are deeply grateful to everyone who donated their time, skills, and generosity to make this day possible."
