After a stellar 65-year run in Hollywood that cemented his status as one of the most revered actors of our time, Anthony Hopkins is fundamentally shifting gears to pursue a career in music.

The 88-year-old Silence of the Lambs star has signed an official contract with the prestigious classical music label Decca Classics and is preparing to release his debut album as a composer.

"Music was my first desire, my first wish," the two-time Academy Award winner shared in a statement published on the record label's website. "I’ve been composing music all my life. Some of these pieces have lived with me for decades, and I still find myself returning to them."

The album, titled "Life is a Dream," features compositions Hopkins has crafted over many years and is set to drop on August 21.

Echoes of Wales and the Depth of Cinematic Storytelling

The actor’s original works—which Decca representatives state were "inspired by Hopkins’ family, Wales and a lifetime of experience"—were recorded by the renowned Philharmonia Orchestra under the baton of legendary conductor Gustavo Dudamel.

The upcoming album's lead single, "Bracken Road"—taken from his original suite "1947: Suite for Solo Piano and Orchestra"—became available for streaming on Friday.

Decca called "Life is a Dream" the most personal musical project to date for the Thor star, adding: "The record features works written across different periods of Hopkins’ life, revealing a composer whose music shares the same emotional depth and storytelling that define his screen career. It is an intimate musical memoir shaped by loved-ones, imagination, and heritage."

"It’s Kind of Disgusting": Why Hopkins Never Bought Into Hollywood Glamour

Despite a phenomenal run in cinema—including two Oscars, four BAFTAs, two Primetime Emmys, and the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes—the Legends of the Fall star has never held back his true feelings regarding the entertainment industry's highest accolades.

Back in 2012, long before securing his second Best Actor Oscar for the drama The Father, the actor spoke candidly in an interview with the Huffington Post: "You know, I’ve been around—I’ve got the Oscar myself for 'Silence of the Lambs'—and having to be nice to people and to be charming and flirting with them… oh, come on! People go out of their way to flatter the nominating body, and I think it’s kind of disgusting. That’s always been against my nature."
