“No Royal Status!” Camilla Reportedly Forces King Charles to Shut Down Harry and Meghan’s Ambitions

13:12, September 14

Queen Camilla reportedly insisted that King Charles III draw a clear line for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after their unexpected return to the UK. According to sources cited by RadarOnline.com, Camilla feared that the Sussexes’ return could blur the boundary between the couple and the British monarchy.

The 79-year-old Camilla is said to have strongly urged 77-year-old King Charles III to leave no room for ambiguity over the status of 41-year-old Harry and Meghan after the couple returned from California last month with their seven-year-old son Archie and five-year-old daughter Lilibet.

Did Camilla Insist That King Charles Block Harry and Meghan’s Royal Ambitions?

According to sources, Camilla urged the King to make the Sussexes’ position within the monarchy absolutely clear.

Charles subsequently ordered official clarification to be issued, once again emphasizing that Harry and Meghan remain non-working members of the Royal Family and that their activities are carried out strictly in a private capacity.

“Camilla understands better than most how quickly public perceptions of the monarchy can become confused. She was determined not to allow Harry and Meghan’s return to be interpreted as the beginning of a gradual restoration of their former status. In her view, everyone — the Sussexes, Palace officials and the public — needed absolute clarity from the outset,” a source said.

Another insider stressed that Camilla’s influence over Charles should not be underestimated.

“She is someone whose opinion he trusts enormously, particularly when complicated family matters have the potential to become an institutional problem. Camilla believed that uncertainty would simply postpone a much more serious confrontation down the road,” the source claimed.

Another source emphasized that this was not an attempt to prevent Charles from maintaining a relationship with his son and grandchildren.

“It was not about stopping Charles from having a relationship with his son or grandchildren. Camilla was concerned about the boundary between the private family and the public monarchy. Harry can remain the King’s son without representing the King, and Meghan can pursue charitable or commercial projects without those activities being given royal status simply because she is living in the UK again,” the source explained.

The Secret Palace Letter

Harry and Meghan returned to the UK on August 26 after six years living in the United States. The couple moved back for an extended period with their children, as Archie and Lilibet are expected to begin attending British schools.

However, their relocation did not change the arrangements put in place after they stepped down from royal duties in 2020.

Charles subsequently instructed Lord Benyon, the Lord Chamberlain, to circulate the relevant guidance among government departments, military organizations and Lords Lieutenant after officials began asking how the Sussexes should be treated.

The letter reaffirmed that Harry and Meghan are not working members of the Royal Family and that their use of the HRH — “His/Her Royal Highness” — style remains suspended. Their charitable activities are conducted independently of the Royal Family.

The Sussexes’ position was described as “analogous to that of private citizens with commercial and charitable interests.”

According to the publication, Harry and Meghan were surprised by the way the letter was circulated.
