Ryan Murphy’s legal drama All’s Fair, starring Kim Kardashian, Glenn Close and Naomi Watts, has been hit by another wave of scathing reviews. Critics have branded its second season “unbearably awful”, while one reviewer has gone so far as to call it “the worst TV show of the 21st century”.
The harsh reception, however, comes as little surprise. The first season, which premiered last year, was also widely panned. Despite the criticism, the series became Hulu’s most-watched scripted series debut in three years, prompting the streaming platform to renew it for a second season almost immediately.

One of the most brutal reviews came from Ed Power of The Telegraph, who awarded the show just one star and described it as “unbearably awful”. The publication compared the on-screen action to such a disastrous soap opera that watching it could make viewers question the point of existence — or, at the very least, their Disney+ subscription.
“Why would world-class actresses such as Glenn Close and Naomi Watts agree to appear in this unbearably awful show?” the critic asked. He also pointed out that 25 years ago, Watts starred in David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, a film widely regarded as one of the greatest movies of the 21st century. Now, he quipped, the actress has found herself in another surreal Los Angeles nightmare — one that could well claim the title of the worst television series of the century.
The Guardian was somewhat kinder to the second season. Critic Lucy Mangan noted that the show remains absurd, from Glenn Close dressed in leather-look outfits to the saucy rumors involving Bruno Mars. However, she felt it had improved slightly on its debut season, which received zero stars.

“At some point, you realise you’re actually having fun, rather than sitting open-mouthed as you did last time, wondering how television could possibly be this bad. The show is edging towards the ‘so bad it’s good’ category,” Mangan wrote.
Ready Steady Cut reviewer Jonathon Wilson also described the first season as “astonishingly terrible” and said that little had changed in the second. He did, however, observe that the creators seemed to have finally abandoned any attempt to present the project as a serious drama about divorce lawyers in California.
“What the show has become now, I have no idea. But it is a completely bonkers and unpredictable spectacle that can be entertaining,” the critic concluded.
The first season, however, faced particularly harsh criticism. Daily Mail reviewer Christopher Stevens called it “the most disgusting, nauseating, teeth-grinding pile of televisual garbage” he had ever seen. The Guardian opened its review with the admission: “I didn’t realise television could still be this bad. But I was wrong. All’s Fair is a terrible show. Amazingly, incomprehensibly, existentially terrible.”
Amid the backlash last year, Kim Kardashian received public support from Glenn Close. The actress said she had been surprised by how seriously Kim had approached her role.
“She didn’t pretend to be a great actress, but she was smart enough to surround herself with people she could learn from. If she had had a huge ego or been one of those people who are impossible to work with, I would have been unhappy. But she isn’t like that,” Close said.
The actress suggested that the negative reaction may also have been linked to the public’s mixed feelings about the Kardashian family, which has long had a distinct public image that does not appeal to everyone.
Following its premiere last year, the series received a zero per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Later that month, its score rose to 3%.
