By Shushan Shatikyan YEREVAN. – Theater specialist Levon Mutafyan told NEWS.am STYLE that he knew for a long time that the famous American Armenian Kardashian family has distant relatives in Gyumri, Armenia.Mutafyan said he knows two Kardashyan families; one in Artik, and the other in Gyumri cities.   

“Just like the Mutafyans, the Kardashyans likewise are descended from one family. In Gyumri, I know of Kardashyan’s who are the relatives of the well-known Kardashians. The grandfather of the Kardashian and the grandfather of that family were cousins from their fathers’ side. They are a very good, respected family that are recognized both in Gyumri and [capital city] Yerevan.

“Now, only one of them is still alive; Martin Kardashyan, and their children. I don’t know whether or not the children know, but Martin should know about the relation with the well-known Kardashians,” Mutafyan said.  

And in response to our query as to his view on the Kardashians’ forthcoming visit to Armenia, he specifically notes as follows:

“I’m very loyal to the person of [famous American Armenian TV personality Kim] Kardashian, and I don’t have that aggressive attitude toward her activities and person. I respect that woman; she does her PR, forms her image in her domain to the best of her abilities.   

“If she visits Gyumri, I’ll be very happy. First, [because] Gyumri is a city that is disregarded by everyone, whereas Kardashian’s person will form some interest toward Gyumri. Second, it again will give an opportunity to speak about the apathy that is formed around the slaughter of the Avetisyan [family in the city].  “Perhaps, her visit [to Gyumri] will also become a means for something to change [for the better] in that city; that is, she, by seeing the plight of the city, might be able to bring an economic idea, program to that city, with her capabilities, [and] through her name. 

“Overall, I highly praise any Armenian who visits Armenia these days, and has a certain image in the world, since the public interest, the demeanor intensifies with each visit. The [Armenian] Genocide issue is raised again, the claimancy is stressed, whether [it is Kim] Kardashian, or [world-renowned French Armenian singer, songwriter, actor, public activist, and diplomat] Charles Aznavour; this contributes to the propagation of the genocide [issue], and the consolidation of the [respective] international opinion.”     

As reported earlier, the Kardashian sisters are expected to visit Armenia this week, and they already have booked suites in a luxury hotel in Yerevan.The Kardashians, along the lines of their trip to Armenia, also plan to visit Gyumri where, as per director Amatuni Virabyan of the National Archives of Armenia, they have distant relatives.
