Rapper Kanye West performed for the inmates at the Harris County Jail in Houston, Texas, TMZ reported.
The concert was held within the framework of the Sunday Service musical project, attended by a gospel choir of approximately 100 singers and musicians.
Kanye suggested the prison administration to hold a concert Wednesday, but it took place on Friday and was a surprise to many. Religious events are common in prison.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez conveyed the rapper's words to the inmates about concert. West said this is a mission, not a show.
The rapper and his crew spent two hours in this prison, speaking to jailed men and women, as well as prison staff.
