'Friends' star David Schwimmer comments on racist jokes in TV show

14:39, January 30

'Friends' star David Schwimmer, who played the role of Monica’s brother Ross Geller, made excuses for racist jokes in the TV shoe, The Guardian reported.

“Maybe there should be an all-black Friends or an all-Asian Friends,” Schwimmer says. “But I was well aware of the lack of diversity and I campaigned for years to have Ross date women of colour. One of the first girlfriends I had on the show was an Asian American woman, and later I dated African American women. That was a very conscious push on my part.

As for the popularity of the series, the artist linked it to nostalgia for those times when there were no social networks and modern gadgets.

Earlier, the issue of sexism, racism and homophobia in ‘Friends’ heated the discussion in the social networks.
