Art dealer Larry Gagosian is now self-isolating and runs his large online empire from the suburbs of New York Hampton, he told Bloomberg.
Gagosian said it was from there that he ran his empire over the past two months, while all 18 of his galleries, which are scattered all over the world from Hong Kong to Los Angeles, remain closed.
The art dealer begins to master the new reality of the market: most sales are available online now.
According to him, the power of network sales surprised him - Gagosian has earned over $ 14 million since the pandemic in March. This week, as Frieze New York opened its virtual edition, the gallery found a buyer for a $5.5 million Cecily Brown painting featured in its online viewing room. According to Larry, sellers who feel pressured and want to offer discounts have become another active part of the business lately.
He noted that not everything is so smooth and the self-isolation added its own problems as now it is hard to even transport the art or order a truck.
