The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTUK) of Turkey has decided to demand that Netflix cancel the screening of the French film Cuties in the country, NTV reported.
Last week, the Turkish Ministry of Family and Social Policies had called on RTUK to take action regarding this movie which tells the story of a Muslim girl who took off her headscarf to compete in a dance competition. The ministry said in a statement that this film "could lead to abusive treatment of children and negatively affect their psychological and social development."
The film has also been criticized for its "sexual content."
Earlier, Turkish media had reported that Netflix was blocked in the Turkish parliament due to content related to homosexuality and Armenian Genocide.
