Daniel Decker: One day maybe I will make Armenia my physical home, where I come to live!

15:39, October 16

American singer Daniel Decker got aware of the war in Artsakh from the first day (September 27), and since that very moment he started to spread awareness by speaking out about Azerbaijani and Turkish aggressions on Artsakh and Armenia. Now the singer is in Armenia and is ready to not only mentally, but also physically support the nation, who as he always says, are so close to his heart!

In his interview with NEWS.am STYLE Decker talked about his love and devotion towards Armenia and Artsakh.

“I’ve heard about the war from the first day. I have many friends in Armenia and every day I go online and read the latest Armenian news to see what’s happening. My first thought was shock and anger that such a terrible thing is taking place. Immediately I wanted to come and I decided that I had to come to support Artsakh and Armenia during this time”. He also adds, “I’ve grown to love the Armenian people and the nation of Armenia, its culture, music and its history. One day maybe I will make Armenia my physical home, where I come to live! It’s very close to my heart. I would say I’m not Armenian by birth, but I’m Armenian by choice!”. The singer also recalls his visit to Shushi, which was in 2017. He says his heart now breaks while seeing the photos of Shushi’s Cultural and Youth center, which was recently destroyed because of Azerbaijani aggressions...

“I went to Artsakh in 2017 for my concert in Shushi and it was during the Independence Day celebrations there. It was not only interesting to me, but also a very powerful memory to see the people of Artsakh celebrating the special day for Independence. I grew to respect and love the people of Artsakh even more. I visited churches there and great museums. So, it has a very special place in my heart and when I saw the photos of the concert hall which had been destroyed- it was really heartbreaking to me and just want to say to the people of Artsakh that I’m with you!”.

Decker says his first reason of visiting Armenia is to be useful to Armenians as much as possible. “I came this time first to support the people in Armenia and Artsakh, to say that I’m with you, to help in any way that I can. I always have different projects, especially musical projects, but right now it’s a little bit secondary, because my primarily focus is to help Armenia during this time! There is also one musical project that I want to finish while I’m here. It’s a new song for Artsakh and about the heroes of Artsakh!”. The musician is deeply upset that US media doesn’t cover the situation in Artsakh fully to show that people of Artsakh just defend themselves for their freedom and peace. “They’re talking about the conflict between both sides, but it’s not clear from the news, that Armenia and Artsakh are the victims, they are not the aggressors! So, there needs to be more clear information in US news about what is really happening. The Azerbaijan and Turkey - they are the aggressors! That people of Artsakh just want freedom and to live in peace, and they have every right to defend themselves!”.
