The name of the newborn daughter of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Lilibet Diana caused a lot of controversy in the press.

It is suspected that Elizabeth II is not happy that her great-granddaughter bears her nickname. However, it became known that the duke asked for a blessing from his grandmother.

As a friend of Prince Harry said in an interview with Vanity Fair, before naming his daughter that way, the duke asked for his grandmother's blessing.

“He loves and respects his grandmother. For Harry these are two very important and meaningful names.”

Lilibet, or Lily for short, is the childhood nickname of Queen Elizabeth II.

As a child, it was difficult for her to pronounce her name in full, so she came up with this option.  So she was called only by her husband Prince Philip, her parents and several closest people. The Queen signed her farewell note at her husband's funeral with the name Lilibet.

Insiders say that Elizabeth II was one of the first to whom Megan and Harry were informed about the birth of their firstborn.
