Actress Amber Heard, who lost in court, does not have the money to pay moral compensation for libel and legal costs to her ex-husband Johnny Depp, her lawyer Elaine Bredehoft said on NBC Today.
According to the court decision, Heard must pay the ex-spouse $ 10.35 million and five million for legal costs.
The lawyer said that the actress is absolutely unable to pay this amount. She also opined that her client lost because Depp's defense side demonized Heard and withheld much of the evidence against the Pirates of the Caribbean star. Bredehoft noted that she feels the burden, as this case is a failure for all women in the courtroom and beyond.
On June 1, a jury found Heard guilty in a defamation case. Although Depp was found not guilty, he was also ordered to pay compensation of $ 2 million in connection with libel on one of three counts.
The actress later said that she was disappointed with the jury's decision because of the significance of the court's verdict for other women. She sees the verdict as a reversal of the idea that violence against women should be taken seriously.
