adidas and Nike, two of the world’s leading sneaker brands, are set to battle it out in court, hypebae reported.
According to the Three Stripes’ lawsuit filed in Eastern Texas federal court on June 10, Nike has infringed nine of its patents, including the Nike’s Run Club, Training Club and SNKRS mobile apps and Adapt system. adidas has claimed that Adapt infringes on the 2005 Adidas_1 sneaker, which was the “world’s first intelligent running shoe” that “sensed and adjusted the comfort of the shoe while the shoe was worn.”
Elsewhere, adidas Confirmed and Nike SNKRS have similar features. Confirmed debuted back in February 2015 while SNKRS launched in May 2015. ”adidas has long been a leader in mobile technology, including technology related to mobile fitness and mobile purchases,” the lawsuit reads. “adidas was the first in the industry to comprehensively bring data analytics to athletes.”
adidas is demanding to be rewarded “in an amount sufficient to compensate adidas for Defendant’s infringement of the Patents-in-Suit, but not less than a reasonable royalty, together with interests and costs.”
