Check it out: The king is dead, long live the king! - "House of the Dragon"

12:32, November 12

By Norayr Nazaryan

NEWS.am STYLE presents you a series (prequel of "Game of Thrones") "House of the Dragon" in the fantasy and drama genre, which has been broadcast on the HBO cable channel since August 2022. At the moment, the first season has been released, the show has already been renewed for the second.

Creator: Miguel Sapochnik.

Starring: Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, Rhys Evans, Olivia Cooke, and others.

The action takes place about 200 years before the events of "Game of Thrones". The series tells the story of the beginning of the end of House Targaryen, the events that led to the Targaryen civil war for the succession, known as the "Dance of the Dragons".

At the beginning of a lyrical digression...

After "Game of Thrones" ended (did you like the end of the series or not, it's not the point), the whole world was thinking and wondering which project would sit on the throne and become the new favorite of viewers.

At first, many people hoped for "The Witcher", but after season 2, the hopes collapsed, and with the recent departure of the main star Henry Cavill, this series can be closed ahead of schedule.

The main favorite for "reign" was the Amazon Prime project "Rings of Power" (a series in the "Lord of the Rings" universe).

But as it turned out, apart from the visual side, the show offers nothing, on the contrary, it ruins all the achievements of the trilogy of Peter Jackson and the father of the founder of the universe, John Tolkien.

And now it turned out that after the death of his father, he sat on the throne of the series (figuratively speaking) his son.

"House of the Dragon" is certainly an expensive, high-quality, beautiful series. He captures from the very first seconds and magically transports the viewer into his world already familiar to him from "Game of Thrones".

We meet new heroes, but it's like we've already seen them all. A girl who doesn't want to be just a princess, but wants power and is ready to fight enemies by riding a dragon. The hand of the king, who is plotting some cunning plans. The King and his brother are naturally each other's greatest enemies.

The cast is the best thing in the series. Undoubtedly, Damon Targaryen, the brother of the king, played by Matt Smith, drew most of the audience's attention to himself.

It is worth noting Paddy Considine in the role of King Viserys himself. The actor gave out a real drama and showed how heavy the burden of the monarch is.

Millie Alcock and Emily Carey as young Rainira Targaryen and Alicent Hightower did an excellent job with the images of their heroines and on a par with their "adult" versions.

The entourage, costumes, scenery, and the general atmosphere of the world is preserved, and in some ways even improved and sometimes shown even more interesting than in "Game of Thrones".

Most of the action will take place in places already familiar to fans. In King's Landing, Red Castle, and Dragonstone, there will also be several new locations. All of them are very well developed, full-scale shooting is not inferior to "Game of Thrones".

The graphics are at a high level, the dragons look like they are alive, and each of them is recognizable. Concepts of several types of dragons were developed especially for the series.

Of course, the series has disadvantages.

There were several not-quite-appropriate and not-quite-logical scenes, which slightly blurred the impression.

There are also plot holes. Let's hope that the showrunners and screenwriters will shut them down or beat them in the future.

Finally.

If you like high-quality and well-developed series, but you are not an ardent fan of the Game of Thrones, do not pass by the "House of the Dragon": you may like it.

And for fans of the world of "A Song of Ice and Fire" viewing is mandatory.

Enjoy the movie!
