The secret meaning of the first-ever joint promotional photo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, in which the soccer stars play chess, is revealed, reports Norwegian edition NRK.
The pieces on the impromptu chessboard in the picture are arranged according to the episode of the game between Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura, which took place in 2017. The Louis Vuitton brand deliberately decided to use this particular stalemate.
"Chess expert Bruce Pandolfini, who contributed to the Netflix series "The Queen's Gambit ," was present during the photo shoot to ensure that the position of the pieces was such that neither Ronaldo nor Messi could win," said Louis Vuitton public relations manager Ewan Lawson.
Annie Leibovitz's photo of Ronaldo and Messi playing chess on a Louis Vuitton suitcase went viral on social media. It was posted more than 55,000 times in two days and garnered a total of about 65 million likes. In the first 48 hours since the photo was published, Louis Vuitton fashion house earned about $13.5 million.
The athletes came to the set on different days, so the joint photo was edited in Photoshop.
