American and Canadian actor Brendan Fraser shared details about his refusal to star in the sequel to the 1997 adventure comedy "George of the Jungle", where he played the title role. The artist spoke about the incident in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
"I think 'George' got a remake, and they built a joke into it that the studio was too cheap to hire me, which wasn't inaccurate" Fraser said.
"I was approached. I can't remember what I was doing at the time, but I felt like I wanted to go do 'The Quiet American' instead with Michael Caine, and shoot the first Western film in Vietnam ever, directed by Phillip Noyce, to tell an infinitely American story. I'm always making diverse choices, and, hopefully, that keeps me and an audience interested. With a bit of distance, I think they've all cumulatively led up to the place I'm in now," the actor concluded.
The film "George of the Jungle" was released in 1997 and was about a man who was raised by gorillas in the African jungle, where he lived until he met the girl Ursula, who took him to San Francisco. The film was based on the 1967 cartoon of the same name. In 2003, the tape had a sequel, released immediately on physical media. There the role of George instead of Fresher was performed by Christopher Showerman. Both films were produced by Walt Disney Pictures.
In 2007, the first season of the animated series "George of the Jungle" began to be shown, its second season was released eight years later - in 2016.
