The Netflix series Wednesday could be renewed for a second season next year. Amazon, which bought MGM Studios for $8.5 billion, will produce the sequel, sources tell Deadline.
This is a great signal to the community that Amazon Studios is serious about working with competitors and getting involved in other people's projects, one source said.
The writers and producers have already begun discussing the future of the project and selecting locations for filming.
The series is about the teenage years of Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), who begins her studies at Nevermore Academy. Not only does she have to learn how to use her psychic abilities, but she also has to unravel the mystery of mystical events going on in town involving members of her family.
Wednesday had its digital release on Nov. 23 on the streaming platform Netflix. The show racked up more than 1 billion hours of views and became the third series to reach that mark in less than a month.
