The film Avatar: The Way of Water broke the $2 billion mark six weeks after its release, The Variety reported.
The film became the sixth in the history and the first after COVID-19 pandemic to collect more than $2 billion at the box office. Also director James Cameron became the only one whose three films surpassed this milestone.
Avatar: The Way of Water grossed $598 million at the U.S. box office and $1.4 billion internationally. The publication noted that among foreign markets stand out the Chinese ($229 million), French ($129 million), German ($117 million), Korean ($96 million) and British ($81 million).
The original Avatar remains the highest-grossing film of all time with $2.9 billion, Avengers: Endgame settled for second place with $2.79 billion and Titanic rounds out the top three with $2.19 billion.
