South African rapper Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, 35, known as AKA, was shot dead outside a nightclub through the window of a passing car, The Guardian reported.

They say that along with the rapper shot his friend, with whom they were going to the nightclub to perform to celebrate the musician's birthday.

Police said the motives for the crime are unknown and an investigation is underway.

He was born Jan. 28, 1988, in Cape Town. He rose to fame with the release of his debut studio album in 2010.
