Michelle Yeoh, star of Everything Everywhere All at Once, became the first Asian woman to win the Screen Actors Guild Award for best actress. "I think if I speak, my heart will explode" Yeoh said on stage accepting her award. “But most importantly we never give up. I thank you for your love, for your support because I know I am up against titans,” she said.
Yeoh isn't the only Asian nominee (or winner) of this year's ceremony. Her colleague on Everything Everywhere All at Once, Ke Huy Quan, became the first Asian male to win the award for acting, and Stephanie Hsu was also nominated for a supporting role.
This year's SAG Best Actress list is the most ethnically diverse in the guild's 29-year history: for the first time, women of color made up the majority, including Ana de Armas (Blonde), Viola Davis (The Woman King) and Danielle Deadwyler (Till).
Best Actor honors went to Brendan Fraser (The Whale).
The TV categories honored The White Lotus and Jennifer Coolidge, Jessica Chastain (George & Tammy), Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) and others.
