Netflix's new miniseries Supersex has come under fire on social media for being too explicit. The series is based on the life of porn actor Rocco Siffredi, known as the “Italian Stallion.”
But followers were less than impressed when Netflix posted a clip of the erotic series to its US Instagram account on March 7 before it was mysteriously deleted.
Screenshots obtained by The Daily Mail show angry commentators criticizing the streamer for promoting a porn series. “Are we just making porn mainstream? It’s quite disgusting that there are no warnings about such explicit content,” one of them was outraged. “Now we have porn on Netflix? If I close my account while we’re talking, my kids won’t see it,” a second user commented. “It’s very sad that this is accepted in modern culture. The hypersexualization of our society and generation oppresses and degrades the value of both sexes,” said a third.
Supersex premiered on March 6. Alessandro Borghi plays the main role in the series. Borghi recently spoke candidly about the series, calling it "the hardest thing I've ever done in my life." “I was not sure that I could represent such a complex problem, especially in my country. In Italy you can talk about whatever you want, but not about sex...I really grew up on porn,” Borghi told The Independent.
“This was my sex education.” Series creator Francesca Manieri also shared some information about the series, telling the publication that her "goal was to put men before herself." “This is what we call a phallocentric system, a system in which the penis is the center of thought first and foremost,” she said.
