Celine Dion opens up about her struggle with SPS

12:30, April 23

Celine Dion has opened up about her struggle with Strict Person Syndrome (SPS) in a rare interview with Vogue France. The 55-year-old singer looked sensational in the racy magazine shoot, posing topless in an oversized white shirt and shorts.

Dion shared how she copes with this syndrome day by day.

“I undergo sports, physical and voice therapy five days a week. I need to learn to live with it now and stop questioning myself. At first I asked myself: Why me? How did this happen? What have I done? It's my fault? Life doesn't give you any answers. You just have to get over it!”

SPS is a degenerative condition in which muscles tense and spasm uncontrollably. Patients eventually become like "human statues" as the body gradually becomes blocked, leaving people unable to walk or talk.

There is currently no cure for this condition, but there are steps that can be taken to slow down the symptoms.

Celine Dion made her last surprise appearance on stage at the Grammy Awards in February. It was the first time she had been seen in public in months. Now Dion has also revealed whether she will ever go on stage. “I can’t answer this question... Because for four years I’ve been telling myself that I won’t come back, that I’m ready, that I’m not ready... I don’t know... My body will tell me.”
