Beautiful flowers on the windowsill, balcony, or in your garden. Many of us dream about this, some manage to master gardening wisdom, and, given the large number of offers on the local flower market, it is almost impossible to resist the temptation to buy a beauty in a pot. However, the main thing is how to avoid becoming a “plant killer.” In this connection, we, at NEWS.am STYLE, have decided to start a new section in which we will share recommendations and life hacks, from both professionals and amateurs, on how to properly care for flowers and plants.

Orchids are probably the most beautiful flowers in the world. And they have long been available in Armenia’s stores at a very affordable price, ranging from 5,000 to 12,000 drams. But this flower requires optimal care to produce beautiful blooms. In a video posted on the @interflorauk TikTok account, a plant lover shared three tips on how to care for an orchid.

First, its water must not stagnate. “You can run water through it or keep it in the water for an hour or two. Because clumpy compost does not hold water, leaving the pot sitting in water will kill the roots.”

Second, when the flowers on the top fade, you cannot cut the stem right at the base. “Those little nodes will actually produce more flower buds so you can move down the stem. So if you cut it right at the base, you'll be depriving yourself of flowers."

And the third tip is a transparent pot. “In these pots grows a green eagle that benefits from the air. If your pot is closed and air can't get to those roots, you're really just starving your plant.”
