Staff at London’s Michelin-starred restaurants are sounding the alarm after a series of daring food thefts, believed to be carried out by the same woman, reports the Daily Mail.
Last week, Elystan Street shared CCTV footage showing a woman calmly taking a box of £300 langoustines and walking off without looking back. The video quickly went viral on social media.
Now, staff at Galvin La Chapelle reviewed their own security footage and discovered the same woman had stolen £800 worth of premium meat from their restaurant just days earlier. The footage shows a hooded figure in a white top and black trousers swiftly moving up and down stairs, rummaging through deliveries, and making off with the loot.
“London appears to be facing a repeat, targeted restaurant thief—already being dubbed the ‘fine-dining bandit,’” insiders said.
Elystan Street chef Phil Howard posted the video on Instagram, writing: “Caught stealing our precious langoustines this morning—low-life scum. Hope you rot in hell with your accomplices.”
Restaurant manager Becky McLaughlin noted the impact of such thefts on business. “You can see from the footage that she knows exactly what’s in the boxes and their value. In today’s climate, this can be extremely damaging for restaurants,” she said.
Elystan Street has appealed to the public for help in identifying the culprit.
The incidents come amid a wave of package thefts across the UK, with police reporting £666.5 million worth of goods stolen in the 12 months to July—nearly double the previous year—affecting around five million households.
Elystan Street, owned by Phil Howard, serves contemporary European cuisine and is one of several acclaimed restaurants run by the chef.
