Inside the “Billionaires’ bunker”: Miami’s private island for the 0.01%

22:22, February 27

In Miami, a city of luxury and nine-figure price tags, one coastal enclave stands above all others — Indian Creek Island, nicknamed the “Billionaires’ Bunker.” Here, starter homes begin at $60 million, and access to the island is notoriously restricted, reports Fortune.

The Island and Its Residents

Indian Creek is a 300-acre man-made island in Biscayne Bay, just north of Miami Beach. Residents include NFL quarterback Tom Brady, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The island has only 40 waterfront lots, adding to the exclusivity of already high-priced real estate.

The centerpiece is the Indian Creek Country Club, featuring a private 18-hole golf course. Membership requires a $500,000 initiation fee and a lengthy approval process.

Real Estate and Privacy

Zuckerberg recently purchased a new mansion valued between $150–$200 million. Bezos acquired three plots on the island’s west side for over $230 million, turning two into a family compound and using the third for a Mediterranean-style home.

Indian Creek operates as an independent municipality with its own police force patrolling the island 24/7 by land and water. A single guarded bridge connects the island to the mainland; all visitors must present identification, and vehicles may be inspected.

Unlike other high-profile Miami Beach neighborhoods such as Palm, Star, and Hibiscus Islands — where tourists can view mansions from boats — Indian Creek offers total privacy, keeping prying eyes completely at bay.

The Economic Factor

With rising discussions of billionaire taxes in California, the cost and privacy of Miami real estate has become increasingly appealing. Local realtors say buyers carefully plan investments and moves to protect wealth while maintaining complete discretion.
