The Television Academy is pleased to announce that basketball legend and philanthropist Kobe Bryant is the recipient of the 72nd Los Angeles Area Emmy Governors Award, the Academy informed on Twitter.
The award is meant to celebrate an individual or company's outstanding contribution to Los Angeles, and visionary achievement in art, sciences or television. Bryant, who was nominated for the posthumous honor by Spectrum SportsNet, is receiving the award for both his storied athletic career and philanthropic work.
The posthumous honor will be presented on July 18 during the Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards.
