Warner Bros. began production on the "Constantine" sequel after Keanu Reeves expressed his desire to return to the role of John Constantine, The Collider reported.
"[Reeves] was asked what character he’d love to play again, and he said John Constantine, and the crowd went nuts. People finally saw that and went,‘Oh, wait, maybe you guys can go and make the Constantine sequel,'" Lawrence shared.
He stressed that he had been planning to make a sequel to the superhero movie since the first part was released in 2005. However, there were many complicating factors, including Warner Bros. rights to the character.
"Constantine: Lord of Darkness" is a film about John Constantine, a psychic who takes on the investigation of a girl's suicide. In addition to Reeves, the film stars Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf, Djimon Hounsou and others.
