Martin Scorsese has announced the start of the filming of his upcoming movie about Jesus. In his interview with The Los Angeles Times, the director noted that the project will be based on Shusaku Endo's The Life of Jesus and that the script has officially been completed with the help of fellow director Kent Jones. "I'm trying to find a new way to make this story more accessible and remove the negative burden of what was associated with organized religion," Scorsese explained, adding that his film will likely be set in the present day to create a more timeless feel. .
“Now you say this word ‘religion’ and everyone gets outraged because it has failed in so many ways,” Scorsese said. “But that doesn't necessarily mean the original impulse was wrong... Let's just think about it. You can reject it. But it can change the way you live your life, even if you give it up.
That's all I'm talking about.”
Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon was recently nominated for The best drama motion picture at the 2024 Golden Globes, with the director winning Best Director of a Motion Picture - Drama, and actress Lily Gladstone winning for Best Actress in a Drama.
