Steven Spielberg making movie about UFOs

14:36, April 18

Steven Spielberg is ready to return to science fiction. The Oscar-winning filmmaker is making "a UFO movie based on his own idea," Variety reports.

Spielberg is working in tandem with screenwriter David Koepp, known for his collaboration on 1993's Jurassic Park.

While the title of the upcoming movie has yet to be confirmed and details are scarce, reuniting the writer and filmmaker responsible for one of the greatest blockbusters is certainly an exciting prospect.

Notably, Koepp is working on the upcoming installment of the Jurassic World franchise, which is scheduled for release next year.

The filmmaker hasn't made a full-fledged UFO movie since 1977's Close Encounters of the Third Kind, considered one of the most influential alien stories.

Richard Dreyfuss played Roy Neary, an ordinary worker from Indiana whose life changes dramatically after an encounter with a UFO. This movie was a huge success both at the box office and among critics.

The film received nine Academy Award nominations, as well as an Oscar for Best Cinematography and Special Achievement Award for Sound Effects Editing.

Then came E.T., a touching story about a boy named Elliot who befriends an alien stranded on Earth. Released in 1982, this movie became a cultural phenomenon, grossing over $800 million worldwide and holding the title of the highest-grossing film of all time until 1993.
