Selena Gomez has admitted that she feels "sick" when she remembers what she used to be like. The singer and actress noted that it "disturbs her" to look back on how critical she was of herself when she was younger.
Since the release of her 2015 album Revival, the singer has used her music as a platform to express her feelings. Her 2022 documentary My Mind and Me details her struggles with self-confidence issues and suicidal thoughts, which led to a diagnosis of bipolar disorder and burnout. All this changed her attitude towards herself.
“It hurts me to hear what I said about myself at the beginning. This pisses me off. But I think everyone knows this feeling. It's very important to talk to yourself with kindness, but I don't think I really understood that [at the beginning of the film],” Selena noted.
The 31-year-old singer and actress explained that she was inspired to talk more openly about her struggles after watching Girl, Interrupted with her mom Mandy Teefey.
